open markets and beer palaces

I just love open markets and this one was top-notch. Check out the huge cheeses!! Then we went to the Hofbrauhaus for lunch: I opted for the kasspatzle (small egg dumplings with cheese on top) over the fat white sausages, some sort of beer and lemonade combination, and a sampling of desserts including a kind of apfelkuchen (apple cake). Serenaded by the Bavarian band and surrounded by colorful wall art (apparently painted over the Nazi swastikas of the past), it was a wonderful lunch and a great introduction to German culture.
